ISLE OF WIGHT v BUXTON - PREVIEW

Tuesday July 24, 2018
AFTER nearly three weeks without a meeting Buxton restart their season with three matches in four days starting with a trip to the Isle of Wight in the Travel Plus National League on Thursday, 7pm.

The Warriors have ridden eleven of their league matches winning three of those matches all at home while the Hitmen have so far to chalk a point up so far this season and have currently only ridden four league matches this season.

The Warriors are led into action by Danny Ayres who comes in as a guest for Ben Morley while they will utilise the rider replacement rule for Alfie Bowtell as both Morley and Bowtell are riding for their Championship club Lakeside. Warriors skipper Scott Campos will give solid back up for Ayres while Danno Verge and Taylor Hampshire who comes in as a guest for the injured Chris Widman. At reserve the island club have Jamie Bursill and Shaun Tedham.

The Hitmen are getting closer to fielding a full side with the return of Connor Coles to the side after injury. Buxton will use rider replacement to cover the absence of James Cockle who has informed the club that he is unable to continue with the club due to personal issues.”

Team manager Joshua Moss commented “I was joking with the boys after we found that Connor (Coles) was back that I would be lost without having to plan the rider replacement rides at the Isle of Wight, however circumstances in James (Cockle) private life mean that he can no longer race for us. I respect that sometimes things are more important than speedway and I would like to thank James for the short time he was with us here at Buxton. We will be looking for a suitable replacement for him however we know this is a difficult task as we just don’t have the funds to compete with the big boys and throw in tyres, fuel for them as much as we’d like to. We are definitely due a bit of good luck and a win and will be doing our best on Thursday to get something from the meeting. We have two riders in our team who were warriors last season in Ben Wilson and Conor Coles along with Tom Woolley who has done a couple of meetings there recently they can pass on advice to the younger lads in the side to enable them to adapt to the big open spaces of the Smallbrook Stadium track which is very different to Hi-Edge raceway.”
